Best San Francisco Hikes
Northern California is a mecca for hikers and lovers of the outdoors. With everything from looming redwoods to scenic coastal views, you could hike somewhere different every weekend and never get bored!

Lands End
Few cities can rival San Francisco for a sense of expansive nature within the city limits. At SF’s far northwest corner, Lands End has miles of trails that hug the rugged Pacific coast. Sunny days yield views far out into the ocean and north to the hills of Marin, with Golden Gate views worthy of a postcard.
Marin Headlands
The Marin Headlands is a hilly peninsula at the southernmost end of Marin County, California, United States, located just north of San Francisco across the Golden Gate Bridge, which connects the two counties and peninsulas. The entire area is part of the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.
North Ridge and Sunset Trail Loop
Round up the gang for a boat cruise on San Francisco Bay and a hike on Angel Island. This family-friendly San Francisco hike leads to the island’s highest point, where the Bay’s cerulean-blue panorama unfolds. Getting there is half the fun: Savor the salty-breezy ferry ride, then disembark at Ayala Cove and climb a long staircase to join the North Ridge Trail.
Devil’s Slide Trail
Don’t let the ominous name fool you: The 1.3-mile Devil’s Slide Trail snakes along a beautiful portion of the coast just south of San Francisco on what was once part of Highway 1. Strategically placed benches, observation scopes, and informative signs make it ideal for families or anyone looking for a short and relaxing hike with coastal views.
